Consider berthing your boat or yacht in a serene, sheltered and utterly convenient harborage located at your very own dream home in one of the most beautiful islet coastal settings in Belize. Adding to your convenience is the community's proximity to Chetumal, the largest and most rapidly growing city in Southern Mexico.
Until recently, La Playa de Cerros Maya Peninsula had remained virtually uninhabited since the Golden Age of the Maya, circa 900 AD. Several Mayan Pyramids still stand in the jungle southwest of Cerros Sands at La Playa de Cerros Maya. Although they have been officially “discovered” and much of the site remains undisturbed, there are undoubtedly more relics and treasures to be found. Centuries later, Christopher Columbus (or, according to some, Cortez) became the first European to discover Cerros. Possessed at various times by the Spanish, Dutch and English, the area is rich in history. The region was also well known to both Caribbean pirates of the 17th and 18th centuries as well as to whalers in the 19th century.
Subsequent to the commencement of our community at Cerros Sands at La Playa de Cerros Maya, we have seen a dramatic and consistent rediscovery of La Playa de Cerros Maya Peninsula which has led to a beehive of new development activity on the peninsula, as well as in other nearby locations.
This article, in US News Money, On Retirement section, focuses on two areas of Belize: San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, and the Cayo District. We wonder how the author missed the Corozal District, but perhaps she was showing the contrast between the island and hilly extremes of the country. The Corozal area might be the best of both worlds.

And when coupled with solar energy, captured through photovoltaic panels, these homes are becoming their own mini power plants that feed electricity to the grid.
— Paul Hagey, Inman News"According to legend, the world will end in 2012 because the ancient Maya calendar, which spans 5,000 years, mysteriously ends on Dec. 21."
Great for Hollywood and tourism, but not so mysterious. 21 December will this year will mark the end of the Long Count, so it's something like our calendar going from the year 1999 to 2000.
But numerous tourism-oriented events will be scheduled, including a concert, light show, and fire ceremony at the ruins of Xunantunich on 21 Dec. Just one more reason to include Belize in your travel/relocation plans.
— The Travel ChannelJoshua Berman, author of Maya 2012: A Guide to Celebrations in Mexico, Guatemala, Belize and Honduras and other tourism books on Belize, says that Belize (and other nearby areas) is set to cash in on the publicity about the "Apocalypse" that has led to increased interest in Maya culture. Example:
Major airlines have already committed approximately 37,000 additional airline seats to Belize in 2012, compared to 2011 according to Anthony Hunt, a representative of the tourism sector on Belize's Civil Aviation Authority Board who claims there is no evidence that this increase is due to the Mayan calendar. Hunt says the reason for the new seats is "confidence of the airlines in the strength, stability and growth of the Belize tourism product," but that product is currently being sold under the 2012 tourism board tagline, "Where will you be when the world begins anew?"— Joshua Berman, Huffington Post
