As 2021 is now behind us, we thought an update on the progress in our area would be great information for those looking to live in Belize.
In late 2020 The People’s United Party, referred to as the PUP was elected in somewhat of a landslide. Many familiar names especially in the North have been put in charge of the various ministries. This bodes well for interaction on many levels.
Roads in the area that were left without repairs, being cared for only by the adjoining landowners and homeowners were within a couple months getting attention with filling and grading.
The Government of Taiwan in an agreement with Belize that was started under the previous administration has been working on a paved road all the way from Corozal Town to Sarteneja. This road comes right up to the Cerros Peninsula where the Cerros Maya Temple Road intersects.
This road improvement project includes Two Bridges that will replace the existing ferries. One at the New River and the other at Laguna Seca. The one at the New River will have the greatest effect for those at Cerros and Cerros Sands. There will no longer be lines to wait in at the Ferries.
Property owners at Cerros have had discussions with various MInistries asking for an upgrade to the Cerros Road. These discussions will continue as The Cerros Maya site is one of Corozal’s Historic sites and it falls in The Cerros Wildlife Corridor. Improvements to this road would increase accessibility to this site.
The community of Cerros Sands saw numerous property owners move into their new homes. As many as four builders were working on homes at the same time in 2021. New neighbors also moved into homes just down the road from the entry, as well as just to the south of Cerros Sands.
At this time three homes are under construction. We are aware that five sets of building plans are in the works. Another beachfront home should break ground in February or March. Another builder has indicated he intends to start a spec home in the coming months on a channel parcel.
There are currently Two beachfront homes on the market both priced over $700,000.00 US. One channel home is available as well priced at $250,000.00.
Blackbeard’s Restaurant at Cerros Sands has become one of Corozal’s Finest Restaurants, a secret that is no longer. Its ambiance is unmatched in Northern Belize. It will also be home to some of the greatest music on Sunday afternoons.
The Royale at Cerros Sands is awaiting its Gold Standard Certification. Its nicely appointed rooms stood out with the Inspectors for BTB. Elvina Garcia is the contact person at 670-8818
The newly installed Cerros Maya Disc Golf course has been an immediate success. It has given a second option to the Golf Driving Range. Numerous trees are also being placed to allow for a very nice place for a walk. Tournaments take place approximately one Saturday every other month. There is NO charge to play. Players have come from as far away as Sweden and North Carolina to partake in a tournament. Chris can be reached at 670-8816.
